Volunteer Spotlight – Ed Bodzio

Ed Bodzio, from Geisinger Wyoming Valley, has been volunteering for a few years at a hospital in San Lucas Tolimán, Guatemala, testing and repairing biomedical equipment. After seeing their need for more reliable systems on his first trip, he requested parts and equipment donations from Geisinger’s Medical Equipment Recovery department. Karen Oncay has been helpful in providing lists of available inventories for donation, as well as providing a separate storage space for the equipment until it can be shipped. In January, Ed delivered 3 cases containing an EKG, two ESUs, several otoscopes, sphygmomanometers and oxygen regulators, along with several parts for repairs discovered on a prior trip. Many of Ed’s coworkers supported this effort with their expertise by repairing, testing and packing fully functional systems.
